Overcome Challenges and Thrive Into Motherhood

Do you remember the feeling when you met and held your baby for the very first time? Carrying and bringing a new child into this world is one of the most memorable, touching and impactful moments of our lives. It is one we always remember, and it’s the first step you took to overcome the challenges of motherhood.

Every minute and a half, a new baby is born in Canada.* It is a common daily occurrence, yet we can be left feeling alone, anxious and overwhelmed.

We Are Not Necessarily Born a Mother, But Rather, We Become One

Motherhood starts with pregnancy and takes place day by day, experience after experience, and develops differently for each woman. It is usually more defined when the baby arrives, and will continue for months and even years after your baby is born.

The transition to motherhood includes many dramatic changes to your sense of self, your career, your relationships, and your mood as you learn how to care for your baby.

Are You Experiencing…

  • Frustration, anxiety, confusion, loneliness
  • Changes in your relationship with your partner, family and friends
  • Increased conflict with your partner
  • Guilt around not performing well enough as a mother
  • Struggles with helping your child with their needs
  • Desperation for self-care
  • Distress over your new identity

It is very important to get support at this time and stay connected.

Theresa is insightful, intuitive and empathetic. I feel seen and heard by her in counselling sessions. I have benefited from her ability to help me identify what I am feeling and achieve my goals. I highly recommend her! – Mother, Victoria, BC

Realign Yourself. Be the Best Mother You Can Be.

Motherhood can be a call to find yourself again, an opportunity to experience your own rebirth. When life gets hard, I mean, really, really hard, what are your tendencies? Do you shrink and hide away? Do you feel anger and rage? Do you want to give up? Do you blame others or become resentful?

Motherhood sends us to difficult places often, sometimes on a daily basis. There are very high expectations to ‘get it right’ and we want to do our best for our child(ren).

Instead of allowing your current state to dictate your behaviour, we must dig deep and acknowledge what the underlying lesson is. What wants to be revealed and resolved here? So often we want our surroundings to change in order to feel better. Ultimately, empowerment arrives when we take responsibility and shift our own perception.

Caring for a newborn is a full time job. We can so easily give ourselves fully to our child and forget to take care of ourselves. Gradually and at your own pace you find a balance between caring for your child, building a family with your partner and making yourself a priority again.

As your sense of competence and adequacy strengthens, confidence builds. Through our work together, renewed inner resources are revealed as you develop tools to help keep you sane when stress and overwhelm are high.

Overall, this life changing and at times exceedingly challenging experience of motherhood can be an opportunity to deepen and strengthen the important relationships in your life, if you choose to take action.

“As it stands, motherhood is a sort of wilderness through which each woman hacks her way, part martyr, part pioneer; a turn of events from which some women derive feelings of heroism, while others experience a sense of exile from the world they knew.” – Rachel Cusk
